Planned Parenthood celebrates 70 years
By BARBARA HENDEL BLADE SOCIETY EDITOR
The 70th anniversary of Planned Parenthood of Northwest Ohio was celebrated Thursday at Navy Bistro with "The Art of Prevention" art show and fund-raiser.
Anastasia Hanson, the center's local advisory council chairman and the evening's mistress of ceremonies, introduced CEO Lisa Perks, who gave an overview of the center's accomplishments. Planned Parenthood serves low and moderate-income women and men in 11 counties with reproductive health services and education. The center receives some government funds but also needs community support.
The show was judged by a panel of local art experts including Marc Folk, executive director for the Arts Commission of Greater Toledo; Amy Gilman, curator of modern and contemporary art at the Toledo Museum of Art, and Mary Wolfe, community arts philanthropist.
Megan Garner won first place and Nicole Escalante an honorable mention. Klaire Russell received the People's Choice Award.
The inaugural event raised about $5,000, thanks to the guests and numerous sponsors including OraSure Technologies, Nancy and Phil Williams, Constance Roth-Sautter and Kim Sautter, and Georgia Welles.
