Article published Wednesday, October 14, 2009 Birmingham Hall of Fame to induct 7 BLADE STAFF
Seven people will be inducted Oct 18. into the Birmingham Hall of Fame, which was founded 33 years ago as a charitable organization for the East Toledo community.
Fifteen students also will be awarded $1,000 scholarships at the Birmingham Hall of Fame's 33rd Annual Inductee and Scholarship Banquet, which starts at 4:30 p.m. Oct. 18 with a social hour at St. Stephen's School Hall, 2018 Consaul St.
This year's Birmingham Hall of Fame inductee's include:
•Business: Terry James Awls, Sylvania, first African-American general manager at Sylvania Country Club. He also will be the banquet's guest speaker.
•Distinguished citizen: The Rev. Joseph Vamos, Toledo, who served in several northwest Ohio parishes before retiring.
•Distinguished citizen: James Dandar, Waterville, a captain with the Toledo Fire Department.
•Distinguished citizen: Kathy Niehaus, Oregon, who leads many organizations at St. Stephen Catholic Church.
•Distinguished citizen: Sister M. Hyacinthe, Detroit, who was elected provincial superior for the Holy Trinity Province.
•Athlete: Robert Hagemann, Oregon, a 51-year member of the Toledo Metro Golf Association.
•Athlete: Ronald Rassi, Sr., Toledo, a former award-winning Clay High School football player.
This year's scholarship award recipients are: Ronald Siebenaler, Marshall Buchann, Lauren Veres, Rene Zatko, Emily Kuzma, Andrew Pincotti, Adam Hach, Alexander Csizek, Kenneth Heban, Brittney Curry, Jessica Achter, Matthew Ripka, Thomas Duris, Maureen McGee, and Gregory Singlar.
Banquet tickets are $20 a person, $10 for those aged 6 to 12, and free for children younger than 6.
