A husband and wife were killed Friday when their single-engine plane went down north of Heritage Park in Raisin Township, Michigan, and exploded into flames, authorities said. Lenawee County Sheriff Jack Welsh said they were the only people aboard the aircraft, which witnesses said crashed about 4:30 p.m. in an open field near M-52, north of Adrian.
What sounded to one West Toledo resident like a motorist dealing with a flat tire early Friday was in fact a fatal shooting that led to the lockdown of several schools near Secor and Sylvania avenues. "I was awakened by a series of rapping noises that sounded like somebody had a flat tire; then I looked out the window and didn't see a car or a truck or anything; then I went back to bed," said Chuck Horvath, a retired school principal at the Swanton school district who has lived on Eastbrook Drive near Kingsmoor Drive for 35 years.

Gary Kovac, 50, of Rossford, the club's former manager, was indicted on two counts of theft and one count of engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity for using club-issued credit cards for personal purchases totaling nearly $69,000 over 7• 1/2 years.
Perrysburg Township police are looking for a man who sexually assaulted a woman early yesterday on Oregon Road near the Chrysler Group LLC Toledo Machining Plant. The victim told police she was driving south on Oregon at1:48 a.m. and saw a pickup parked along the road in the rain just south of State Rt. 795 with a child next to it. Troy Teneyck's voice choked with emotion Saturday night as he stood before a candlelit crowd of more than 120 people outside the Lucas County Dog Warden's animal pound on Erie Street. Two months earlier, the Teneyck family dog, a 6-year-old chow named Bear, disappeared from their East Toledo home. And two days after Bear's disappearance, the family learned over the phone that their pet had met a fiery fate in the dog pound's incinerator.
Yvonne Soldan could sense her hard-won, middle-class life slipping away, although she never anticipated the eventual depths of her economic misfortune - a homeless shelter. All was fairly well until February, 2008. Ms. Soldan had been making $19 an hour as a registered nurse and nearing the finale of her mortgage payments on a manufactured home in West Toledo. But that month, she took a nasty fall at work, severely injuring her right knee.
