Circus aims to pique the imagination
The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Over the Top Circus is coming to the Lucas County Arena, 500 Jefferson Ave., for performances Nov. 11-15. Ringmaster Chuck Wagner and clown eccentric Tom Dougherty compete for control of a magical top hat that brings to life their fantastical daydreams, including a flying dog, Asian elephants that skip and hop, and a courageous man who stands eye to eye with a pack of Bengal tigers. Also scheduled are equestrian stunts, high-altitude feats on a double-decker trapeze, and motorcycle madness on a high wire. Families can come an hour prior to show times and learn fitness and circus skills from the Ringling Bros. athletic performers.
Show times are 7 p.m. Nov. 11-13, 3 and 7 p.m. Nov. 14, and 5 p.m. Nov. 15. Tickets are $11 to $65 for reserved seating from Ticketmaster outlets and 800-745-3000.

Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday for Chicago, coming Nov. 17 and 19 to the Stranahan Theater, 4645 Heatherdowns Blvd. The musical about mayhem and murder in Chicago of the 1930s will be presented at 7:30 p.m. both days. The Broadway production won six Tony Awards, two Olivier Awards, and a Grammy. Tickets are $28 to $52 from the box office, 419-381-8851, and Ticketmaster.

Also on sale are tickets for Jesus Christ Superstar, which will be performed at 8 p.m. Feb. 18 in the Valentine Theatre, 400 North Superior St. Ted Neeley, who starred in the 1973 movie as Jesus, will portray him on stage. Bucky Covington will be in concert at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 20 in the Ritz Theatre, 30 South Washington St., Tiffin. Covington finished in the Top 10 on the fifth season of American Idol. His self-titled debut album reached No. 1 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart and produced three hit singles: "A Different World," "It's Good to Be Us," and "I'll Walk." The Pemberville Opera House in downtown Pemberville, Ohio, continues its Live in the House series with Matthew Ball at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 7. The Detroit-based boogie-woogie pianist got his start in jazz in 2001 after he attended a hometown boogie-woogie festival. Ball joined the ranks of iconic blues masters in 2005 when headlining at the Arches Piano Stage in Cincinnati. Tickets are $10. The I Believe There is More Tour with Don Moen and Mandisa will be staged at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 13 in the Toledo Museum of Art Peristyle, 2445 Monroe St. Moen is a Dove Award-winning artist and songwriter. Minneapolis band Ada Jane is to perform at 9 p.m. Nov. 11 in Mickey Finn's Pub, 602 Lagrange St. The band just finished its second record, "Again … Again," and has played shows throughout the United States and Canada.
