COLUMBUS - Juanita Sanchez, a professional bilingual aide for the Fremont City School District, has been appointed by Gov. Ted Strickland to the State Board of Education. The board generally supervises Ohio's public education system.
Ms. Sanchez served as an assistant director for the foundation and academic adviser at Terra State Community College. She's a member of the Minority Achievement Council for the Fremont district and the Fremont Federal Credit Union board of directors. She earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Findlay in 2002.
In other appointments, Mr. Strickland named:
•Don Nalley, of Fremont, chief executive officer of adult services for the Sandusky County Board of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities, to the Terra State Community College Board of Trustees. He's also a member of the Sandusky County Chamber of Commerce and a former member of Fremont City Council. He received a bachelor's degree from BGSU in 1979.
• Sonia Troche, of Perrysburg, executive director of Adelante, the Latino Resource Center, to the Commission on Hispanic/Latino Affairs. The commission studies problems and programs concerning Spanish-speaking people.
She previously served as Ohio director of the Puerto Rico Federal Affairs Administration and as a business operations executive for Netxar Technologies. Ms. Troche is a member of the Toledo Hispanic/Latino Strategic Alliance and of the Northwest Ohio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. She earned a bachelor's degree from the David N. Myers College in 2000 and a master's degree from Tiffin University in 2007.• Alvin Compaan, of Holland, professor of physics and the director of the Center for Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Toledo, to the Ohio Public Benefits Advisory Board. The board advises the Department of Development on the universal service fund and low-income customer assistance programs.
He previously served as assistant and associate professor at Kansas State University. Mr. Compaan received a bachelor's degree from Calvin College in 1965 and master's and doctorate degrees from the University of Chicago.
•Tony Anteau, of Pemberville, vice president of operations for MedCorp, Inc., to the Ohio Medical Transportation Board, which issues permits for and licenses private ambulance operators, issues permits for new transport vehicles, and supervises the licensing of nonemergency medical services organizations.
He has also served as chief for the Central Joint Ambulance District and the Mid County Ambulance District, and is an advisory board member for the Owens Community College emergency medical technician program. Mr. Anteau is a certified firefighter and advanced EMT and emergency medical dispatcher.
•Kevin Greenfield, Perrysburg attorney with Shareholder, Franklin & Greenfield, to the Ohio Standardbred Development Commission, the agency that regulates standardbred racing. He is director of the Ohio Harness Horseman's Association and a member of the U.S. Trotting Association. He
received a bachelor's degree from Bowling Green State University in 1978 and a UT law degree in 1981.
