OSU's Pettrey out for season with injury
By MATT MARKEY BLADE SPORTS WRITER
COLUMBUS – Ohio State will be without injured starting kicker Aaron Pettrey for the rest of the season, Buckeyes head coach Jim Tressel said Tuesday afternoon. Pettrey was hit on the side of his right knee by a low block in the 45-0 win over New Mexico State last Saturday.
Tressel said Pettrey, who had pulled off a successful onside kick against the Aggies earlier in the game and was trailing the play on a kickoff when he was hit, will be replaced by either redshirt freshman Ben Buchanan or junior Devin Barclay when No. 15 Ohio State faces No. 11 Penn State on the road this weekend.
“He won’t be ready for the rest of our season,” Tressel said about Pettrey, who is third in the Big Ten in field goals with 13. Pettrey, a senior from Kentucky, leads the Buckeyes in scoring with 67 points this season.
Barclay, a former pro soccer player who made the Ohio State team as a walk-on, filled in on Saturday after Pettrey’s injury and hit one of three field goal tries, and all three extra point attempts. Buchanan did not dress for the New Mexico State game due to illness.
