Sylvania orders plans for part of river trail
Sylvania City Council has given a consultant orders to draft construction plans for part, but not all, of the proposed Sylvania River Trail.
After holding a closed-door, executive-session discussion about the status of acquiring land or easements for the 1.3-mile trail along the Ottawa River and Ten Mile Creek near downtown, council voted Monday night to have consultant JJR of Ann Arbor prepare drawings for the section between Main Street and the eastern trailhead on Monroe Street.
Mark Luetke, chairman of council's ad hoc Gateway committee, said construction plans are needed before the city can apply for grant funding for the trail, which is expected to cost about $2.7 million.
While "we don't have all the elements" for the section west of Main, he said, it would be "prudent" to proceed with the eastern section. Council scheduled a committee-of-the-whole meeting for Nov. 23 to further discuss the unresolved trail section west of Main.
