Change at Farr makes it easier to help charities

Selected children's charities have shared in some $6.5 million in proceeds from the Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic over the past quarter-century. Countless more will be able to jump on the bandwagon for the 2010 LPGA event through a new ticket sales program announced by the tournament yesterday.

The 2010 Farr Classic will, as usual, have a core group of selected charities, but other children's charities can participate in the Charity Ticket Program Presented by O-I.

The program, which begins immediately, is designed to provide a charity with the opportunity to earn 100 percent of ticket sales it generates for next summer's tournament.

The program "will provide area children's charities a great opportunity to make a significant amount of money in a short period of time," said Kevin Stevens, the general chairman for the 2010 Farr and the chief marketing officer of O-I.

Any 501(c)(3) charities from the area that have specific programs that benefit children are eligible to apply to sell tickets by contacting Heather Warga via e-mail at hwarga@jfocc.com, or by contacting the tournament office (419-531-3277).

Participating charities will be listed on the tournament's Web site and fans who buy tickets online will be able to designate a charity from the list to receive funds from their ticket purchase.
