Roethlisberger's accuser quits job at casino

RENO, Nev. - The woman who filed a lawsuit accusing Ben Roethlisberger of raping her has quit her job at the Lake Tahoe hotel-casino where she claims the assault occurred in the NFL quarterback's penthouse room more than a year ago.

The woman had been working as a VIP host at Harrah's Lake Tahoe in July, 2008, when she alleges the two-time Super Bowl champ for the Pittsburgh Steelers lured her to his room under false pretenses and forced himself on her. He was in town playing in a celebrity golf tournament.

Her lawyer, Cal Dunlap, said yesterday she quit "because of the way Harrah's was treating her." He said he can't go into detail.

Dunlap said the woman took several leaves of absence for medical reasons in the months after the alleged incident but returned to work in March and had been there since.

Harrah's officials did not immediately return a telephone call or e-mail seeking comment.

•ENGLEWOOD, Colo. - Defensive back Ty Law has agreed to terms on a deal with the Denver Broncos.

Kevin Poston, Law's agent, confirmed the deal. The agreement came after Denver's media availability and a Broncos spokesman said the team had no comment.

Law is expected to sign the deal today, pending the passing of his physical. He may even make it out to practice as the Broncos (6-1) prepare to host the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday night.

Law becomes the latest former New England player to reunite with Broncos coach Josh McDaniels, who spent his previous eight seasons as an assistant with the Patriots.

NEW ORLEANS - New Orleans Hornets owner George Shinn said he has been diagnosed with prostate cancer but remains healthy and is optimistic that he will conquer the disease.

"My wife, Denise, and I remain strong in our faith and will maintain a positive attitude as I battle this with intense fervor and drive," Shinn said in a release issued by the Hornets.

A businessman from Kannapolis, N.C., the 68-year-old Shinn has been the owner of the team since he received an expansion franchise in Charlotte in 1988.

BOWLING GREEN - Maggie Hennegan and Tamika Nurse paced Bowling Green State University women's basketball team to an impressive season debut by scoring a team-high 14 points apiece in an 80-50 rout of Findlay in an exhibition matchup Wednesday at Anderson Arena.

Hennegan and Nurse, both transfers, led a balanced Falcons attack. Hennegan also grabbed a game-high 12 boards.

Tara Breske pumped in 10 points for BG. Lauren Prochaska and Tracy Pontius added nine and seven points, respectively.

Ashley Andrews led Findlay with 11 points.

The Falcons play Friday in a preseason Women's National Invitational Tournament first-round contest against Chicago State at Anderson Arena. The Falcons will play a minimum of three games in the tourney.

•FORT PIERCE, Fla. - Sarah Clark scored 16 points with 11 rebounds, Brittany Darling tallied 19 points, and Jasmine Blanton had 18 as Owens Community College women's basketball team won its second straight game of the season, 69-64 over Indian River Community College.

The Expess will complete a two-game Florida trip with a game today in Fort Lauderdale against Broward Community College.
