Changes are under way throughout Oregon.
Oregon Fire Chief Bill Wilkins notified the city in a Nov. 1 letter he is resigning from the department effective June 25, 2010. City Administrator Ken Filipiak is leaving Oregon on Nov. 28 to become city manager of Mentor, Ohio.
And last week's election outcome will put 18-year Oregon City Council veteran and businessman Mike Seferian in the city's top administrative spot as mayor.
Mr. Seferian, who will replace Marge Brown after eight years as mayor, said his first priority will be to talk to city employees and give them reassurances he has not changed since starting on council.
"Then we'll go from there," said Mr. Seferian, adding Oregon will continue working on projects throughout the city.
One task Oregon will have next year is replacing Chief Wilkins, who joined the Oregon Fire Department in 2006 and has headed it since January, 2007. The department has 13 full-time employees, including Chief Wilkins, and 86 volunteers.Chief Wilkins, 54, said he has spent 32 years working in fire departments and may change professions. Still, he wanted to give Oregon seven months to find his replacement and help with the transition, he said.
During the election last week, Oregon City Councilman Bill Myers and Oregon Board of Education President Jeffrey Ziviski lost their re-election bids. Other incumbents on city council and the education board were re-elected.
Sandy Bihn and Dennis Walendzak also were elected last week to city council. And Diana Gadus and Carol-Ann Molnar were elected to the education board.
