Rogers QB Tucker commits to Toledo
BLADE STAFF
Rogers senior quarterback E.J. Tucker, the City League player of the year, has committed to play football at the University of Toledo.
Tucker, who led the Rams to a 9-1 regular-season record, made his decision yesterday. Rogers lost in the first round of the Division II playoffs to Maple Heights.
Tucker completed 57 percent of his passes this season for 1,372 yards and 13 touchdowns, while rushing for 1,158 yards and 25 TDs. He set 19 school records including scoring 180 points this season and 272 points for his career. Both scoring marks had been held by Fred Davis, who played at the University of Southern California and now is with the Washington Redskins.
"E.J. was a big part of turning our program around and getting us to the state playoffs," Rogers coach Rick Rios said. "He worked hard at his passing this season and that's what caught UT's eye.
"Some schools didn't think he could play quarterback at the next level but UT thinks he can and that's a big reason he chose Toledo. His best attribute is his leadership and that will carry over to the next level."
