A collective effort at recycling

Kelsey Welling, left, Haleigh Lindner, center, and Kristi Skinkiss sift through cans during America Recycles Day at the Toledo Zoo, where athletic shoes, cell phones, ink cartridges, computers and accessories, and aluminum cans were collected for reuse Sunday . The observance aims to promote social, environmental, and economic benefi ts of recycling and urge the creation of a better environment.

Haleigh Lindner carries computer items with Molly Severson as Grant Chow waits. The event was sponsored by the Lucas County commissioners, Lucas County Solid Waste Management District, Aluminum Cans for Burned Children, Goodwill, Keep Toledo/Lucas County Beautiful Inc., and the zoo.
