The Loose Piggy
Friday, September 24

If fantasy football is your game, The Loose Piggy chitchat forum on toledoblade.com is the place to be to discuss drafts, stats, trades, and injury updates.

(2:00 P.M. ET) Hello fantasy football fans! Welcome again to the The Loose Piggy on toledoblade.com.

(2:03 P.M. ET) Don’t forget folks – week 3 in the NFL means BYE weeks are beginning, so be sure to adjust your lineups as needed to fill the potential holes in your roster. Avoid the players on the following teams this week: Buffalo, New England, NY Jets and Carolina. We’ll get into the questions and comments soon.

Rob, Bowling Green, OH NYJ's Pennington is on a bye and Jeff Garcia is my backup at QB. Do I start Garcia against the Giants or look for another alternative (K Warner, D Carr, Vinny T) on the waiver wire?

(2:10 P.M. ET) We think any of the three alternatives you mentioned are a better start than Garcia this week. Our nod, ever so slight, goes to David Carr against the porous Kansas City defense – with a second choice of Vinny. The third call would go to Kurt Warner, who is playing against an injury plagued Denver secondary.

Troy With all the injuries, what backup will come off the bench to have a great fantasy performance?

(2:17 P.M. ET) We don’t know if we’re willing to project a ‘great’ performance here, but Aaron Stecker looks to have solid numbers as the Saints and the Rams put plenty of points up this week. Plus, there isn’t a question of McAllister getting healthy enough to play like James and Holmes.

Abby What do you think about starting Fred Taylor this week at RB against the Titans?

(2:24 P.M. ET) Taylor is definitely a number one fantasy RB but needs Leftwich to accelerate his maturation process in order to take away some of the pressure, and the safety in the box while he’s at it. Taylor will breakout, but not this week. The Titans defense is not the match up needed.

DK, Toledo I lost Deuce from my roster and both Stecker [NO] and Rhodes [IND] are available. Which is the better pick?

(2:32 P.M. ET) Thanks for the question DK. Rhodes has the greater upside this week based on experience and surroundings, but James may play so the uncertainty drives us to Stecker who will not lack the opportunity for strong fantasy numbers.

Anthony, Bloomdale, OH Culpepper, McNabb, Pennington, Vick….will Big Ben be the next?

(2:40 P.M. ET) While we expect Big things from Rothlisberger in Pittsburgh, don’t forget about Eli Manning. In their third year, Harrington and Carr have the tools and one should step forward by the end of the year. Where we’re at it, Gruden is looking at the future as now, and unless Tampa Bay schedules Oklahoma, Chris Simms star is rising.

M Fuhr, Cincinnati, OH Who will be the better fantasy quarterback over the entire year: Culpepper or McNabb?

(2:45 P.M. ET) Both of these quarterbacks will be fantasy studs this year. They certainly have turned out to be good draft picks for their teams as well, especially comparison to other quarterbacks drafted that year including Akili Smith and Tim Couch. That being said, in this election year we vote for Culpepper to have the better year from here on out.

Mike, Stryker, OH Drew Brees hasn’t looked too bad this year. What do you think about him as a backup quarterback?

(2:53 P.M. ET) Well Marty, umm… we mean Mike – Drew Brees will look very good as a backup, literally, once Philip Rivers is ready to go.

Mike W, Toledo Will the Detroit Lions or Cleveland make the playoffs – talk about their injuries.

(2:57 P.M. ET) Answering the second part first – the Browns injuries are much more devastating to their hopes this year both in number and by position. While still with a lot of work ahead, Detroit improved their depth and can overcome their injuries, ones that derailed their season a year ago.

(3:00 P.M. ET) Thanks for participating again in The Loose Piggy. Congrats to Dawn O of Toledo on winning our weekly Pepsi prize drawing!
