The Loose Piggy
Friday, October 8

If fantasy football is your game, The Loose Piggy chitchat forum on toledoblade.com is the place to be to discuss drafts, stats, trades, and injury updates.

(2:00 P.M. ET) Hello fantasy football fans! Welcome again to the The Loose Piggy on toledoblade.com.

(2:03 P.M. ET) Week 5 in the NFL means you’ll need to sit players from Chicago, Cincinnati, Kansas City and Philadelphia – so make sure you check your bench and make those necessary replacements on your active roster. Let’s get right into your questions and comments.

Mike D, Stryker, OH Is Jamal Lewis going to miss any time because of his legal issues?

(2:08 P.M. ET) We hear Lewis is out 2—4 weeks in the very near future. While we’re confident Jamal is going to miss out, and league owners too, we’re seeing too many variations of the story to give firm advice here. We suggest you wait until the last possible moment to add/remove him from your roster.

Jim, Toledo, OH Will Chester Taylor be worth adding in place of Lewis and if so, when?

(2:13 P.M. ET) GO ROCKETS! What a nice segue, Jim, speaking of missing Lewis from all those fantasy teams. We would love to see Chester take off for fantasy geeks and we see him as a good BYE week or Jamal Lewis replacement.

Doug, Sylvania, OH A lot of surprise performances on D so far. Any defense undroppable this year?

(2:20 P.M. ET) The New England Patriots are the marquee defense this season. Seattle and Atlanta have surprised with their performance so far.

Fantasy Fan I have Tatum Bell on the bench. Will he amount to anything this year, or should I trade him for someone providing some level of points impact right now at another position? Alexander, Martin and Wheatly are also on my roster—and Alexander and Martin are thru their bye weeks already.

(2:30 P.M. ET) We still like Tatum’s prospects. His competition, Griffin, has had trouble with too many fumbles. However, we don’t think he’ll approach the numbers Shaun Alexander and Curtis Martin are putting up in any given week. Injuries happen too, and he may offer some potential trade bait for your fantasy team.

Sonia, West Valley, Utah me gusta las acciones de los diferentes jugadores.

(2:32 P.M. ET) Great, thanks for the commentary. We like when the players score fantasy football points for our teams.

What to do? Is Rod Gardner worth playing against Baltimore this weekend in a traditional points league? Chambers is on my bench with C. Johnson on a bye week.

(2:40 P.M. ET) Take Gardner over Chambers. That being said, Gardner is a marginal start at best. Look on the waiver wire for Plaxico Burress, Nate Burleson, Randy Hynes or Curtis Conway if you have room on your roster or get ready to make a big trade as Johnson may continue to struggle this season.

Blades With Dillon, Wells, Stecker and McAllister on the roster - what RBs should I start this week?

(2:48 P.M. ET) Nice name. We hope you can wait to set your roster until 11:59 AM eastern time on Sunday. Dillon is one of your starters, but the other will depend upon the newswire. McAllister is saying he wants to play, but that cal might be a bit premature.

Mike D, Stryker, OH Hi Loose Piggy. Thanks for fielding all my questions. Are you sold on Rothlisberger yet? Or does he have some things to prove yet?

(2:55 P.M. ET) Are you a Steelers fan Mike D? You sound like one—not that there’s anything wrong with that unless you’re a Browns fan. Yes, he’s better than Kordell Stewart. No, he’s not elite like Culpepper. With a 86.2 QB rating, he’s the # 16 NFL ranked QB, which on our teams still makes him a second string or BYE week play.

(3:00 P.M. ET) Thanks to everyone for your questions and comments. We wish you a healthy, issue-free fantasy team this weekend. Congratulations to Andrew K. from Toledo for submitting the winning entry into our Pepsi prize giveaway – keep in touch. The Loose Piggy.
