If fantasy football is your game, The Loose Piggy chitchat forum on toledoblade.com is the place to be to discuss drafts, stats, trades, and injury updates.
(2:00 P.M. ET) Hello fantasy football fans! Welcome to The Loose Piggy on toledoblade.com. It’s week 8 in the NFL.
(2:01 P.M. ET) You’ll need to bench players from Cleveland, New Orleans, St. Louis and Tampa Bay – so get your final shots at the waiver wire or pick out that best third-stringer on your roster and hope for the best. By-the-way, The Piggy wants to go see President Bush this afternoon in downtown Toledo – so you can expect an abbreviated chat today.
Andy, Toledo, OH The Steelers have two great wide receivers - Hines Ward who is more of a possession receiver, and Plaxico Burress who is a big play threat. If I can only play one, which should I play?
(2:07 P.M. ET) That’s a great question, Andy. It’s a tough week to start either of them this week with their marquee match up against the Patriots defense. Big Ben has not lost a game yet, so he has a little streak of his own going. Three weeks ago before the Big Ben phenomenon starter Burress was quickly becoming fantasy dog meat. Ben’s strong arm has resurrected Burress’s fantasy career. This resurrection is what makes this a great question. In yardage leagues we would still start Ward this week. However in TD only leagues I would be adventurous and go with Plaxico. He has two touch downs in the last two games verses Ward’s zero TD performance.
Greg, Avon Lake, OH Why is the football made from pig skin?
(2:12 P.M. ET) It’s not—today’s footballs are made of leather. A brief check of the Internet suggests pig skin goes way back to the early days when the football or rugby ball was made of a stuffed pig bladder. Sounds fun, huh?
Jim, Stoney Ridge, OH Due to (BAL) J.Lewis's suspension and (BUF)T.Henry not producing C.Taylor and W.McGahee get the start. Who is the better player this week?
(2:16 P.M. ET) Go with the ex-Rocket as he looks to build on last weeks effort and make the most of his opportunity to shine for other teams. McGahee might have to split some carries with Travis Henry.
Mike D, Stryker, OH Willis McGahee says he's starting this week. i know its too early to put him on a fantasy roster, but do you think he'll ever become a dependable back in this league?
(2:21 P.M. ET) Speaking of McGahee, yes we do, but there is still some rust that needs to be shaken off. The ability is there.
Ron W. Will the Miami Dolphins be in the super bowl ???????
(2:23 P.M. ET) At…If they buy tickets.
Mike D, Stryker, OH well, im going to get off the ben rothlesberger bandwagon for a minute and see what big craig krenzel can do for my bears in his first start this weekend. unfortunately, i don't have as high hopes. what do you think?
(2:30 P.M. ET) Craig Krenzel is not fantasy material. Don’t go there. We’ve seen polls ranking Da Bears as the worst team in football. The rookie Krenzel is not going to change that. We think you are smart not to get your hopes up. By the way won’t it seem strange to see Krenzel throwing passes to David Terrell.
Lois, Toledo, OH Where is Tony Dorsett Sr. and Jr.?
(2:33 P.M. ET) Lois you either really want some Pepsi or you are living in the past. Thanks for joining us.
Steve, Sylvania, OH In what year did fantasy football start?
(2:35 P.M. ET) We have no idea and can only find conflicting information on the subject—we’re just glad it did.
Mike D, Stryker, OH Should I know who Chad Johnson is??!
(2:40 P.M. ET) Can you believe the Bengals strategy last week was to have rookie Carson Palmer go after Champ Bailey and throw deep to Chad Johnson repeatedly. Can you believe it worked? After Chad’s embarrassing performance against Cleveland he looked tremendous in the Monday. If you watched the Monday night telecast you not only learned who Chad Johnson was but also that he has a pink car named Piglet.
(2:45 P.M. ET) Well, that’s all for today folks… time to go. Congratulations to Jim from Stoney Ridge—today’s Pepsi prize pack winner. Have a great NFL weekend and good luck with your teams…The Piggy. Permanent Link
