If fantasy football is your game, The Loose Piggy chitchat forum on toledoblade.com is the place to be to discuss drafts, stats, trades, and injury updates.
(2:00 P.M. ET) We’re halfway through the NFL season—and you’re at The Loose Piggy on toledoblade.com! Welcome all. Make sure you sit your starters from Denver, Miami, Oakland, and San Diego and, at minimum, replace them with at least a warm body from your bench. New England, Pittsburgh, and Philadelphia emerged as the top teams—but how about the players? Throughout today’s chat, we’ll interject with our midseason “ALL-PIGGY” player picks. Feel free to share yours.
(2:05 P.M. ET) ALL-PIGGY QB: Peyton Manning, IND—Want to challenge that call? We doubt it. With his 26 TDs so far this year, Peyton is in position to break Marino’s TD record. Now if he only had a defense.
DK Did Pittman have a two-game year, or will TB go to him more in the second half of the season??
(2:10 P.M. ET) Everyone has a career game against KC this year so take that one out of the mix. For TB to be successful—they will need to retain the balance of the last two weeks but don’t expect Pittman to be a number 1 or even 1a RB the rest of the year.
(2:15 P.M. ET) ALL-PIGGY RB: Priest Holmes, KC—Even nicked-up he continues to dominate. With 14 rushing and 1 receiving TDs, no other RB is racking up the same kind of fantasy points as Holmes. Just hope he stays healthy if he’s on your roster.
Paul G, Toledo, OH Who to start at QB, Brady (NE) or Farve (GB)?
(2:20 P.M. ET) As much as we like Brady [GO BLUE!], Farve has a great match up this week against the Vikings defense. Farve also seems healthy again after his bye week.
Jim Are Thomas CHI, Wheatley OAK, or Bettis PIT worth adding AND playing for a couple of weeks?
(2:26 P.M. ET) Don’t expect a repeat of last week for Bettis as age and familiarity will ring his numbers down against the Browns—but he is still a play, especially in TD leagues. We don’t like the match up for Thomas, and he will probably split time with T. Jones. Oakland has a BYE—so don’t play Wheatley.
(2:31 P.M. ET) ALL-PIGGY WR: Terrell Owens, PHI—This is not a vote for Mr. Popularity—so our nod needs to go to Terrell, his 750 receiving yards, and 9 receiving TDs. Good performance, bad dancing. (Sorry Mike D, but Marvin’s number 17 in receiving yards—and that doesn’t get a big wow from The Piggy.)
Mike D, Stryker, OH Drew Brees??!? A guy who almost didn't have a job this fall and who people had doubts about even being in the league is having one heck of a year. I hope somebody took a chance on him at QB Do you think we can continue to count on Brees being a top QB in the league??
(2:40 P.M. ET) While Brees is a great story and this is the year lights often come on for young QBs, the next four weeks are when pretenders are separated from contenders. San Diego hasn’t finished strong under Marty yet and Brees is going to have to adjust to what defenses have learned over the first half. We want to believe—but still can’t.
Rick, Toledo, OH Which 2 receivers should I start this week Keshawn Johnson, Lavereous Coles, Todd Pinkston, Andre Davis, or Donald Driver. Please help me to pick the 2 least worst as this week is a must win to make the playoffs in my league.
(2:46 P.M. ET) You’re not making this easy on us. The two least worst (and this statement says volumes about said selection) players would be Donald Driver and Keyshawn Johnson. Good luck…
(2:49 P.M. ET) ALL-PIGGY TE: Antonio Gates, SD—Antonio Gates has come out of nowhere to become a QBs favorite target. His 602 receiving yards and 8 touchdowns not only make him the best tight end in our eyes but also a very, very good WR option in non-TE leagues. Maybe college basketball will become required for NFL TEs.
Tom, Toledo Name three players that you think were the biggest fantasy bargains on draft day.
(2:55 P.M. ET) Not necessarily in order—Tiki Barber (must be Tom Coughlin or stickum), Drew Brees and Antonio Gates (helped each other make the list).
(2:59 P.M. ET) ALL-PIGGY D and K: Without much fanfare, let’s hear it for the Baltimore Ravens and David Akers—two great ways to round out your fantasy team.
(3:03 P.M. ET) Thanks for all the great comments and questions—congratulations to Paul G., Toledo on winning our weekly Pepsi prize pack. Permanent Link
