Woman killed by train in Monroe identified

MONROE - The Monroe County Sheriff's Office yesterday released the name of the 21-year-old local woman found dead after she was struck and dragged by a freight train early Wednesday on the northbound Norfolk Southern railroad tracks in east Monroe.

Paige "Nicki" Gregory, of 805 Cherry St., a University of Toledo English major, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A train operator saw her on the tracks at 8th and Eastchester streets about 12:20 a.m., blew a horn, and tried to stop the train. The train slowed down, but came to a stop only after it had hit her.
