He is the son and grandson of men legendary for their care of animals. Ultimately, he was forced to resign his own job amid cries that he killed too many animals. There was a harsh irony at the surface of Tom Skeldon's resignation announcement after more than 22 years in office. Yet his journey shows how his law enforcement often put him at odds with evolving notions of animal compassion.
