Children's Wonderland equipment is up for sale
The Children's Wonderland exhibit is being put up for sale in hopes that a local entity will buy it and maintain the holiday tradition. The Lucas County commissioners Tuesday voted 2-1, with Commissioner Ben Konop casting the "no" vote, to seek proposals from buyers for the nearly 50-year-old collection of mechanical characters, snowmen, Santa Clauses, stuffed animals, and gingerbread houses.

Lucas, Wood counties, and others, under Level 2 snow emergency
The snowfall just kept coming overnight, and several counties declared snow emergencies early Wednesday. Level 2 snow emergencies are now in Lucas, Wood, Fulton, Seneca, Ottawa, and Putnam counties. Public safety officials warn that drivers should use extreme caution, and contact their employer to check if they should report to work. Only drive if necessary.

Toledo school board approves income tax request
Toledo Public Schools will ask voters to approve a new tax on the May ballot to help the district tackle a $30 million budget deficit. The Toledo Board of Education during a special meeting Tuesday approved a first-ever 0.75 percent earned income tax that would generate $18.1 million a year for the district.

Toledo officials given raises up to 26.9%
At the same time Mayor Mike Bell is seeking 10 percent pay cuts and benefit concessions from city union employees, several top city officials have received double-digit pay increases, The Blade has learned. The biggest salary increase was handed to Peg Wallace, acting director of human resources. Her salary went up 26.9 percent, to $85,000, from what former Mayor Carty Finkbeiner had paid her.
