American Honda recalls 18,500 snow blowers

12/30/2010

WASHINGTON — American Honda Motor recalled approximately 18,500 snow blowers because of a fire hazard two days after the arrival of one of the worst winter storms in decades.

The snow blowers were sold nationwide, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said Wednesday. No fires have been reported, but the company has received 90 reports of fuel either seeping or dripping.

The fuel tank joint and O-ring on the fuel tank's underside can allow fuel to escape fuel over time. The devices were sold at Honda Power Equipment dealers from April, 2005, through last month for about $2,000 to $3,400.

American Honda said customers should immediately stop using the snow blowers and go to a dealer for a free fuel tank joint and o-ring replacement.

The recall involves model numbers HS724, HS928, and HS1132.
