Parent firm of Blade names new executive

William "Liam" Durbin

William "Liam" Durbin has been named the new chief information officer of newspapers for Block Communications Inc., the parent company of The Blade and the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Mr. Durbin, who is based in Pittsburgh, will oversee technology and information systems for both newspapers. Prior to accepting the newly created position, Mr. Durbin, 46, was chief information officer for Pittsburgh-based food company Heinz North America.

"We are pleased to have someone with Liam's track record for facilitating operational efficiencies joining our newspaper operations," said W.H. "Chip" Carstensen, president of Block Communications.
