Columbia Gas rate to increase in May

Columbia Gas of Ohio said Thursday that its customer rate will increase in May to 63 cents per 100 cubic feet of natural gas from 61 cents this month.

The May rate is based on Wednesday’s natural-gas commodity closing price of 44 cents on the New York Mercantile Exchange, plus a 19-cent state-regulated service charge.

Columbia Gas said that, based on the new price, the average customer’s bill in May will be $55.24.
