Union-rights posting rules delayed by NLRB

WASHINGTON — The National Labor Relations Board, saying it was responding to complaints from companies, delayed requiring employers to post notices informing workers of their rights to form a union and bargain on contracts.

The board pushed back the deadline by more than two months, giving the agency time to inform employers, particularly operators of small and medium-sized businesses, according to an email statement by the board today. The rule will take effect Jan. 31 instead of Nov. 14, according to the statement.

The board proposed the rule in August to spell out for employees their rights under federal laws that let workers choose to form and join a labor union. Business groups protested.

Most companies will be required to display an 11-inch by 1-inch notice in a part of the workplace where company policies are posted.
