Bedford Township trustees have changed three parcels from residential to commercial zoning.

The changes have been made to an acre at 8493 Secor Rd., nearly two acres at 6465 Lewis Ave., and eight acres of a 14.7-acre parcel on Lewis Avenue south of Smith Road.

The vote was unanimous on the first two requests.

The vote on the third change was 5-2, with clerk Trudy Hershberger and trustee Larry O'Dell opposed.

Some neighbors objected to the zoning change, saying they feared it would disrupt the neighborhood’s quiet setting.

The board also approved renewing its membership in the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments for one year at a cost of $1,944.

Supervisor Greg Stewart said the township will spend less money staying in SEMCOG and continuing to receive the discount that qualifies it to get from the Toledo Metropolitan Area Council of Governments.
