Genoa Banking Co. plans to open a branch in a former Sylvania Township firehouse now that the bank and ABC Warehouse have received a waiver on parking requirements.

ABC representatives argued Wednesday before the township Zoning Board of Appeals that the standard 129 parking spaces for the two businesses were not needed because the bank would occupy only part of ABC-owned property at Monroe Street and Whiteford Road, and its busiest hours and the appliance store’s don’t match. The bank will be busiest during weekday hours; the store is busiest during evenings and weekends, they said.

The bank will occupy the former Fire Station No. 3, 5515 Monroe St. ABC Warehouse, whose store is next door, bought the property after the firehouse moved to a building on Whiteford.

The shared parking arrangement will provide 104 spaces, township Zoning Officer Daryl Graus said.
