Bank to help workers hurt by shutdown

CLEVELAND — Charter One bank announced a program Thursday to help customers who work for the federal government and are directly affected by the ongoing shutdown.

Charter One said help would include rebates on certain fees for checking accounts, savings accounts, and credit cards; easy access to certificates of deposit without incurring a fee, and assistance with loan payments.

The program will run Tuesday through Nov. 4 or the end of the shutdown, whichever comes first. To be eligible, people must must have been a Charter One customer Aug. 15 and a federal worker affected by the shutdown. Eligible customers can contact Charter One at 877-242-7837 or go to a branch.
