Huntington 3rd in nation in SBA loans for 3rd year

Huntington Bank is the nation’s third-largest lender of Small Business Association loans in the United States for the third year in a row.

The Columbus-based bank said it made 3,062 SBA loans totaling $465 million in the 2013 fiscal year ending Sept. 30. The bank increased the total number of loans by 20 percent over 2012

“Small businesses are the backbone of our economy because they create 66 percent of new jobs, ” Deborah Stein, Huntington business banking director said. “Every year we find new and better ways to help business owners learn how to effectively use the program to grow their businesses.”

More than half the SBA loans the bank made went to Ohio businesses, for $204 million. Michigan businesses got the second-largest share, $162 million. Huntington says it’s the top SBA lender in the Toledo area.
