Kroger set to open new gas station on Airport
2/14/2014Kroger Co. plans to open a new gas station today on Airport Highway in Holland on the site of a new Kroger Marketplace store that is scheduled to open by year’s end.
A Kroger spokesman said that ordinarily the grocery chain likes to coincide the opening of its gas stations with a store opening, but in this case the store and the fuel center were built on separate parcels of land.
Cincinnati-based Kroger was able to get permits for the gas station faster than for the store, which is on the site of a former Farmer Jack store in the Orchard Centre shopping center.
Spokesman Jackie Siekmann noted that Kroger has two nearby stores, one on McCord Road and the other off of Airport Highway in the Spring Meadows Shopping Center, but neither has a gas station.
“Instead of sitting on the [fuel center] project for several months while we finish the store, we decided it would be in the best interest for our customers [for] our business to go ahead and complete the fuel center now,” she said.
