Cedar Point to reopen today

Water-line break foiled fun during weekend

SANDUSKY — Cedar Point’‍s high-speed roller coasters and rides were slated to be back in motion today.

The amusement park closed after a broken water main caused an unexpected shutdown on Saturday.

City employees fixed the pipe that broke later that day.

However, the park remained closed Sunday while the water’s bacterial content was analyzed, according to a representative at the Sandusky water plant’‍s engineering department.

The park’s administration posted a message on its Web site to inform the public that the repair was complete and that guests at its three hotels could begin to purchase tickets at 8 a.m. today.

For the duration of the repair, they directed ticket holders to two water parks, Wildwater Kingdom in Aurora and Kings Island in Cincinnati.

Other local businesses noted an increase in traffic as Cedar Point visitors searched for nearby entertainment. Although the Merry-Go-Round Museum reported little change in ticket sales, the Ghostly Manor Thrill Center had double the usual number of visitors to its haunted house on Saturday, according to Chris Ealsom, one of the center’‍s managers.

To celebrate the reopening, the park’‍s administration is providing a free Soak City ticket to anyone who buys a one-day Cedar Point ticket online through June 15, according to the Web site.
