Ballreich’s places high in potato chip judging

TIFFIN — Northwest Ohio’s Ballreich’s Potato Chips and Snacks Co. took two gold medals and a championship at the nation’s first Potato Chip Festival this month in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., the unofficial birthplace of the potato chip.

Ballreich’s, based in Tiffin, received gold medals for Best Plain Potato Chip for its regular Marcelled chips and Best Potato Stick for its Smokey Sweet Mesquite snack. The latter product also was named overall champion in its product category.

Also competing at the July 16 festival were Frito Lay, Utz Quality Foods, Great Lakes Potato Chip Co., Herr Foods, Wise Foods, Saratoga Chips, and Bickels’ Snack Foods.
