  • SANDUSKY — A power outage at Cedar Point took some of the fun out of the day for some of the guests in attendance on Memorial Day.

The theme park in Sandusky lost power Monday afternoon, leaving some park-goers stranded on rides.

Cedar Point spokesman Tony Clark said in emails to The Blade that a section of the park lost power at roughly 1:45 p.m. — affecting roughly one-third of the park’s rides. Power was restored at about 3:50 p.m.

“The outage was caused by a vehicle accident in which a car struck a power pole,” he said. “All of the rides that were affected safely came to a stop and all guests are being escorted off. Ohio Edison is currently addressing this and will restore power as quickly as possible.”

Cedar Point’s Twitter account tweeted at 2:23 p.m. alerting the public of the outage.

“We’re currently experiencing a power outage in a portion of the park,” the tweet read. “Ohio Edison is currently addressing this and will restore power as quickly as possible. Thanks for your patience!”

Sarah Parry, from Sharpsville, Pa., said she was walking around the park when the power went out — leaving those on the Millennium Force ride stuck for at least 40 minutes.

“Everything is closed,” she said, “all the rides, the stores, and the food places.”

Those at Cedar Point on Monday can return for free any day through Labor Day with proof of ticket purchase, Mr. Clark said.
