American Eagle to assign larger planes to Toledo-Charlotte route

American Eagle will begin using larger planes with first-class seating sections for flights between Toledo and Charlotte thanks to the route’s success since its launch late last summer, the Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority announced Thursday.

The 50-seat regional-jet aircraft now used on the route’s two daily roundtrips will be replaced Sept. 5 with 63-seat Bombardier CRJ-700s configured with nine first-class seats, eight in “main cabin extra,” and 46 in coach, according to the port authority. No first-class seating has been available on a route serving Toledo Express Airport since July, 2001, the agency said.

“Due to the success of the new Charlotte route and the overwhelming response from the Toledo region, American Airlines has answered the community’s call for additional capacity in the market,” said Paul Toth, the port authority’s president and chief executive.

Service on the Charlotte route, supported by a $750,000 federal revenue guarantee matched by $250,000 from the port authority, began Aug. 22.
