Area home sales up, but prices remain low

Sales of single-family homes increased across northwest Ohio last month, but prices remain well below those of a year ago, the Toledo Board of Realtors said yesterday.

Sales in September increased 3 percent in the area to 603 and 5 percent in Lucas County to 381. Through the first nine months of 2009, sales are down 2 percent across the area and are flat in the county.

Averages prices across the area fell to $106,000 in September from $111,000 in September, 2008, but were up from $104,000 in August. In Lucas County only, prices fell to $98,000 last month from $108,000 in September, 2008, and $103,000 in August.
