Description: We are excited to announce the 50 year anniversary of the National Head Start organization.

Thirty Plus Club of Toledo Head Start is planning a reunion banquet and gala to look back over this wonderful program, on the evening of Friday, August 28th, 2015 at Parkway Plaza in Maumee. We cordially invite YOU to join the celebration by participating in our “Where Are They Now?” local community event.

Tickets are $45, includes a special commemorative souvenir, and can be purchased from an active Thirty Plus Club member or on our event website: www.toledoheadstartreunion.eventbrite.com.

Thirty Plus Club is a non-profit organization located in Toledo, Ohio comprised of former as well as current Head Start employees with 30 or more years of service to the Toledo Head Start Program. Several members worked for Head Start from its inception - 50 years ago.

Our club remains active and responsive to the needs of our community. We offer scholarship opportunities for preschool education through the Mary Hodge Scholarship Fund as well as provide support to Family House shelter.

We hope you can and will participate in the celebration of a program that has provided so many rich services for children and families throughout our great country. For fifty years, now, Head Start has been the premier model for providing the whole child an opportunity for success in school and in life. Since the summer of 1965, more than 31 million children have benefited from Head Start’s comprehensive services - they have become business women and men, professors, teachers, lawyers, mayors, ministers, Members of Congress, athletes, foundation Presidents, Grammy-winning musicians, poets, and parents. Wouldn’t it be fun to reunite with former program participants to find out “Where Are They Now”?

The Head Start Program has been beneficial in the lives of so many that we are inviting all (program participants and administrators, teachers, ministers, parents as well as community leaders) to help make this celebration unique for such a prestigious organization and a joyous, momentous occasion. We are looking for sponsors who are willing to make a material or financial contribution to help make this event a success.

Singer/Songwriter Series: The Hoke Brothers

Description: The Sandusky State Theatre is excited to host another Singer/Songwriter Lounge after having to take a break due to theatre bookings and rentals. Guest of the show love the atmosphere filled with music, coffee, and friends. Producers Organized Chaos Music with Dan Hoke are enthusiastic about the direction of the series and are excited to showcase the local and regional talent.

The Hoke Brothers are an acoustic duo based out of Clyde and Sandusky, Ohio. The groups consist of Dan and Mike Hoke, who are no strangers to the music scene in Northeast Ohio. They have been playing in and out of rock bands together for the past 10 years. They have had the privilege to open for acts such as, Foreigner, Tantric, Blind Melon, Sponge and the Straits. While taking time off from their current rock band Eastern Rift, they go back to their roots and pick up their acoustic guitars. They mix classic rock with alternative influences to bring an intimate unplugged style performance.

This months Singer/Songwriter Lounge brings you some local singer/songwriter brothers that love to write and share their music. Join us for August Singer/Songwriter Lounge, it’s a great way to relax for the weekend. Also, mark your calendars for November 27th when we present Ryan Dunlap from Toledo, Oh.

The Singer/Songwriter Lounge is driven to reach out to local and regional artist to showcase their music or display their artwork. It strives to create a nice relaxed atmosphere filled with displayed artwork and music in the coffee house type setting. The Singer/Songwriter is a place where friends and music come together.

Coffee will be provided by Mr. Smith’s Coffee House locally owned and operated by Trent and Sara Beard located in beautiful downtown at 104 Columbus Ave, Sandusky, Ohio.

Couches provided by Goodwill Industries of Erie, Huron, Ottawa and Sandusky Counties. When you donate to Goodwill, you are giving local residents the life-changing opportunity to achieve independence through the power of a paycheck.

Description: Dogwood is teaming up with The American Red Cross to host a blood drive for humans and their canine counterparts. Save a life, get a tour of our facility, meet our employees, and learn more about our Canine Blood Donor Program.

POTENTIAL DOGWOOD DONORS: Walk-Ins welcome. Please come by to learn about our Canine Donors.  If you think your dog could be a donor please print and fill out the application from our website to bring with you to the event. After reviewing your application we will draw a minimal amount of your dog’s blood to submit for blood typing.  Actual canine blood donations will be scheduled on a later date.

Description: The Historic Church of Saint Patrick is celebrating 153 years as a parish and honoring the firefighters on the 35th anniversary of the steeple burning.

A Fire Within will be held Saturday, August 29, 2015, from 5-10 p.m. in the church parking lot at 130 Avondale Avenue, Toledo.

Cost is $20 per person, and tickets are available at the Historic Church of Saint Patrick parish office Monday-Thursday from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. or by calling 419-243-6452.

Enjoy a real hog roast with pulled pork, grilled chicken, side dishes, desserts and beverages. Door prizes will also be awarded every 15 minutes.

At 7:30 p.m., there will be a program to honor the retired firefighters who fought the steeple fire.
