COLUMBUS - Governor Taft has named a new director of the Ohio Lottery at a time when the state numbers game is working to maintain sales.

Dennis G. Kennedy of South Euclid, a 20-year veteran of the Cleveland-based agency, replaces Mitchell J. Brown, who left to head the Columbus police and fire departments. Mr. Kennedy has been interim director since May.

He will be paid $99,000 a year, up from the $95,805 Mr. Brown was making, to manage the 345-employee agency with more than $2 billion in sales.

As assistant director, Mr. Kennedy ran the daily operations. “Dennis has a proven track record of success exemplified by his progressive career growth within the Ohio Lottery,” Mr. Taft said.
