Perrysburg mayor, council get raises

Pay raises for the Perrysburg mayor and members of city council were unanimously approved last week by council, but the increases will not go to current office holders unless they are re-elected by voters.

Ohio law prohibits in-term pay raises.

Mark Hummer, the chairman of council's personnel committee, said that the increases were recommended after a review found that salaries of the city's elected officials were "on the low end of the pay schedules'' compared to salaries in the neighboring communities.

The measure, approved 7-0, will raise the mayor's salary to $21,000 a year, effective in 2002, from the present salary of $16,000 a year.

In 2004, the annual salary for the mayor salary will be increased to $22,000.

The salary of city council members will go up to $6,000 a year, effective in 2002, from the present salary of $4,000 a year.

In 2004, the annual salary will be increased to $6,500.

The council president's salary will go from $5,000 to $6,500 in 2002 and to $7,000 in 2004.

The terms of mayor and three council members expire at the end of 2001.
