Humane Society critics plan to discuss issues

LIMA, Ohio - The former director of the Allen County Humane Society and several agency volunteers plan to meet today to outline their concerns about the agency's current board of directors.

Sandee Laing and dozens of volunteers remain angry about the way in which Ms. Laing was fired from her post in February. Ms. Laing was not given a reason for the firing, and she and others continue to press board members for an answer.

Debbie Helser, a longtime volunteer, said the group attempted to meet Thursday night with board members to discuss the firing. None of the 18 humane society board members showed up, Ms. Helser said.

Dale Kohlrieser, board president, said recently that the board's attorney has instructed them not to discuss the firing.
