Runaway car crashes through apartment wall

7/13/2001

An apartment at Flory Gardens, 3425 Nebraska Ave., was evacuated yesterday because a car came loose from a tow truck and crashed through a resident's wall.

The car and ABCO Services tow truck were southbound on Byrne Road about 9:15 a.m. when the car broke away, veered off the east side of the road, and into the wall of an apartment, police said.

The resident, Bryan Crawford, was lying on the couch, said Linnie Willis, deputy director of the Lucas Metropolitan Housing Authority, which operates the complex. “The impact pushed him to the other side of the room.” Mr. Crawford wasn't hurt but has been moved to another apartment. Police cited the driver of the truck, Albert Loeffler, 2157 Albon Rd., Springfield Township, for an insecure load.
