Driver hurt as vehicle strikes semi

ADRIAN - An Addison, Mich., woman was hurt seriously yesterday when the vehicle she was driving crossed the centerline and sideswiped a tractor-trailer rig on U.S. 223 a half-mile east of Whig Highway in Lenawee County's Adrian Township a mile west of here, the sheriff's office said.

Phylis Mains, 44, the driver of the vehicle, who was trapped inside for a time, was flown to Medical College of Ohio Hospitals, Toledo, where she was listed in critical condition last night.

Steven Valley, 42, of. St. Johns, Mich., the driver of the semi, was not hurt.

Ms. Maison's vehicle was eastbound on U.S. 223 about 2:20 p.m. when it crossed the centerline, striking the westbound semi driven by Mr. Valley, sheriff's deputies said.
