Internet @ The Library

The Toledo-Lucas County Public Library supports and enhances the social, cultural and recreational life for all residents of Lucas County. This is achieved best by offering open and equitable access to information and services in a variety of formats and locations.

In keeping with this mission and with advances in information technology, the Library provides its users with access to the Internet. The Internet and its available resources contain a wide variety of material and opinions from varied points of view. Internet is a global electronic network that provides dynamic resources and facilitates communication. In offering Internet access, Library staff cannot control sites which often change rapidly and unpredictably. Users are hereby notified that they are responsible for the sites they reach.

As with other materials, restriction of a child's access to the Internet is the responsibility of the parent or legal guardian. The Library staff is available to provide assistance and to help identify appropriate sites. The user, however, is the selector in using the Internet with individual choices and decisions.

Users must comply with the United States copyright law and all other applicable laws.

The Toledo-Lucas County Public Library assumes no responsibility for any damages, direct or indirect, arising from use of its World Wide Web site or from its connections to other Internet services.

Adopted: September 26, 1996

Children under the age of 18 who wish to access the Internet at their local Library can have a parent or legal guardian authorize a Youth Internet Card.

This card indicates to Library staff that parents or guardians accept responsibility for material viewed by their child while surfing the Internet at the Library. Each minor-aged patron must display the Youth Internet Card when using Library computers.
