1,200 students evacuated after bomb threat alert

DEFIANCE - About 1,200 elementary, middle and high school students were evacuated yesterday because a student found a bomb threat on a bathroom wall.

Steve Young, superintendent of Central Local Schools, said students were evacuated about 11:30 a.m. after a note was found written on a bathroom wall in Fairview High School, which also houses middle school students. Mr. Young said the note said, “There's a bomb in the building and you don't know when it's going to go off.''

Defiance County sheriff's deputies helped evacuate students from the high school and Sherwood and Farmer elementary schools, Mr. Young said.

Officers searched the high school, on U.S. 127 between Bryan, and Sherwood, Ohio, but found nothing, Mr. Young said.

Students will return to class today. Mr. Young said there was no suspect.
