HURON, Ohio - Former Put-in-Bay Police Chief James Lang, who left the island department last month after six years, has joined Erie Metroparks as a ranger.

Mr. Lang, 55, will assist with law enforcement throughout the Metroparks system and will be assigned as park manager for the Castalia Quarry Reserve and part of the Huron River Greenway.

Mr. Lang, who began his new job Monday, previously worked as a police sergeant in Erie County's Perkins Township for 18 years.

The former Put-in-Bay chief announced his resignation May 24, two weeks after the man who hired him, John Blatt, quit as mayor of the island village.
