3 victims of crash on I-75 identified

6/29/2002

Perrysburg police yesterday released the names of the three people hurt Thursday when two pickup trucks collided closing all three northbound lanes and a southbound lane of I-75, just north of the State Rt. 199 in Perrysburg, for over an hour.

Dawn Ducat, 47, of Weston, Ohio, the driver of one of the trucks, was in critical condition last night in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, where Richard Ducat, 63, also of Weston, who is her husband and was a passenger in the truck, was in serious condition.

Vernon Newman, 46, of Oregon, the driver of the other truck, was treated at the hospital Thursday.

The pickup truck driven by Mrs. Ducat was southbound on I-75, just north of the I-75/I-475 split, about 4:40 p.m. when it apparently went out of control. The Ducat truck then crossed the median, went airborne, and landed in the leftmost northbound lane in the path of a northbound truck driven by Mr. Newman, police said.

As of last night, no citations were issued. The accident remains under investigation, police said.
