6/29/2002

FOSTORIA - Two young girls were hurt Thursday night when the car they were in drove into the path of an oncoming train.

Amanda Potter, 10, and her sister Dominique, 4, were listed in serious but stable condition at the Toledo Hospital.

According to Fostoria police officials, Denise Potter, 41, of Fostoria was driving on Town Street at 11:27 p.m. when she drove into the path of a Norfolk Southern train, Fostoria police reported. She refused treatment at the scene.

In addition to Amanda and Dominique, 13-year-old Ashley Potter was in the vehicle and was treated at Fostoria Community Hospital. Police impounded the vehicle pending results of the investigation.

There are gates and warning lights at the railroad crossing, which is one of two sites in the city being considered for an underpass so that traffic will not be stopped by trains.
