Wauseon man in suicide pact with wife dies

WAUSEON - An 87-year-old man who police said tried to kill himself and his wife in a suicide pact gone awry Thursday died Friday at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo.

Jay Devlin of the West Elm Villas here was pronounced dead at 1:30 p.m., a hospital spokesman said.

His wife, Bonnie Devlin, was listed in fair condition at St. Vincent Mercy last night.

Mrs. Devlin, 86, met police at the door of their home at the West Elm Villas at about 9:45 p.m. Thursday. She told police her husband had shot her twice in the head with a 22-caliber revolver. When police went inside the house, they found Mr. Devlin, who had shot himself in the head.

The couple were in failing health and wanted to end the pain, police said.
