Lucas County to receive $500K for job training

11/23/2002

Lucas County will receive $500,000 to help train dislocated workers, the county's Department of Economic and Workforce Development announced yesterday.

The money comes from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services' Rapid Response funds to help the county train the roughly 2,400 workers in the county who have lost their jobs since July, 2001, according to Jon Allen, the Ohio department's spokesman.

Mr. Allen said the grant had nothing to do with the $550,000 the county department lost earlier this year for failing to spend the money on time.

Waymon Usher, economic and workforce development director, said the county can use the money. "We're trying to make sure that those folks who are being laid off at least feel that we're responding to them in a positive way," he said.
