Area medical team to help out in Guam

Members of the Toledo Area Disaster Medical Assistance Team have received their orders to head for Guam to assist in the aftermath of a typhoon that struck the island Sunday.

The 35 doctors, nurses, paramedics, and support personnel, most from northwest Ohio, will take 50,000 pounds of equipment with them.

They will leave as soon as military transportation can be arranged, James Fenn, a deputy unit commander, said.

On Guam, the team is expected to set up field hospitals and offer medical treatment.

“We expect them to be gone at least 14 days,” Mr. Fenn said.
