That turned into a major headache, albeit brief, about 10:10 p.m. for the officers who had to divert traffic and for the motorists who had to follow new routes.
The drawbridge, whose lift-span has been plagued by problems the last few years, is to be replaced by a $220 million cable-stayed span with a central tower, which is now under construction. Completion is scheduled for 2005.
