3/30/2003

A man was hurt slightly yesterday when a hydraulic boom crane capable of lifting 250 tons that he was operating fell over at the I-280 Maumee River Crossing construction site between Front Street and Starr Avenue, authorities said.

The operator, whose name was not released, was treated for a cut finger at an area hospital, an Ohio Department of Transportation spokesman said.

The operator was moving steel panels about 5:10 p.m. when the crane tipped over and rolled onto its side. It fell across some scaffolding and forms in the construction zone.

The stretch of I-280 where the incident occurred was closed to traffic at 7 p.m. Friday. It is to reopen at 6 a.m. tomorrow.
