0.5% sales tax adopted in Seneca County

7/17/2003

The tax, passed by a 3-0 vote after a public hearing Tuesday night, will replace a 0.5 percent emergency sales tax that will be collected from Aug. 1 through Dec. 31. The commissioners imposed the emergency tax after voters turned down a sales tax in May.

Commissioner Tom Distel said the four-year tax should allow the county, which faced a $1.26 million general-fund deficit this year, to stabilize its finances.
